Cellular Mechanisms of Nutrients that Impact Muscle Health: A Focus on
                                                Linoleic Acid (18:2n6)

The role of linoleic acid, as one of two essential fatty acids in the human
diet, has long been recognized to lower blood cholesterol and has effects on
downstream fatty acid and oxylipin metabolite pathways. Emerging research is
revealing a role for linoleic acid in cardiac and skeletal muscle energy
metabolism. Linoleic acid is a unique constituent of the inner mitochondrial
membrane phospholipid, e.g., cardiolipin. Our work seeks to understand the
extent that dietary sources of linoleic acid may influence cardiolipin-linoleic
acid content to alter cellular pathways and improve energy metabolism.
