               Abstract
                  K. japonica L., a climbing plant in the Schisandraceae family is native to Japan and can be
found in Taiwan and southeast China. In recent years, various chemical components from the
genus kadsura were isolated, including triterpenoids, lignans, polysaccharides and volatile oils,
of which triterpenoids are the main characteristic components. According to the type of
structure, triterpenoids are divided into lanostanes, cycloartanes, northiterpenoids and
pentacyclic triterpenoids. In our previous study, 29 schitriterpenoids (18 unreported compounds)
were isolated and reported from the methanol extract of this plant. herein, in our continuing
research for the natural products, we found that 16 schinortriterpenoids, including four
undescribed compounds kadsujanonols N-Q (1-4) and twelve known ones (5-16), were also
isolated from the methanolic extract of K. japonica. Their chemical structures were elucidated
                                                          1
                                                               13
mainly by spectroscopic analyses including H-, C-, and 2D-NMR, IR, HRESIMS spectra.
The absolute configuration of the sugar moiety from the hydrolysis of the isolates was further
determined by LC-MS with comparison of the reference standards.
