               Abstract
More and more studies have found that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) possesses
treatment effects on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Nevertheless, the long-term efficacy
and safety of TCM to the reproductive and pregnancy outcomes on Taiwanese patients with
PCOS remain unclear. By analyzing the Longitudinal Generation Tracking Database 2005
(LTGD 2005) extracted from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD), we
analyzed the rates of normal live birth, normal pregnancy, and miscarriage of reproductive
females who did or did not receive TCM therapy after diagnosed with PCOS. We also
investigated the difference of prescription pattern between women who had normal pregnancy
and who experienced a miscarriage for safety concern. We found that TCM possessed beneficial
effects on the pregnancy rate of PCOS patients. Also, we identified the 10 most commonly
prescribed single Chinese herb and combined Chiese herbal formula used in PCOS patients. In
short, our study provided clinical TCM practitioners with real-world evidence of the efficacy
and safety of TCM usage on patients with PCOS who want to conceive.
