◼ Biography
Dr. Hsien-Yin Liao is an Associate Professor at the School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese
Medicine, China Medical University, and an attending physician in the Department of
Acupuncture at China Medical University Hospital. He received his M.D. in Chinese Medicine
and Ph.D. in Acupuncture from China Medical University. His research focuses on the clinical
efficacy and mechanisms of acupuncture for chronic pain and depression comorbidity, with
particular interest in neuroimmune regulation, inflammation, and brain function. In recent years,
he has served as principal investigator of several projects funded by Taiwan’s National Science
and Technology Council and has published in leading journals such as Brain, Behavior, and
Immunity, The American Journal of Chinese Medicine, and Cells. Clinically, he specializes in
integrative treatment for stroke, chronic pain, and mood disorders, emphasizing evidence-based
approaches in traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Liao has received multiple Excellence in
Teaching awards from China Medical University Hospital and currently serves as Supervisor
of the Taiwan Association of Acupuncture and Committee Member of the Taiwan Pain Society,
promoting integration of acupuncture with modern medicine.
