               ◼  Biography

                  Dr. Hui-Kang (Glenn) Liu is an Associate Research Fellow at the National Research Institute
               of Chinese Medicine, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan, and Adjunct Associate Professor
               in the Ph.D. Program in Clinical Drug Development of Herbal Medicine at Taipei Medical
               University.  He  earned  his  B.Sc.  in  Food  Science  from  Tunghai  University,  Taiwan,  and

               completed both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ulster, UK,
               followed by postdoctoral training in Molecular Physiology at the University of Dundee, UK.
                  Dr. Liu’s research focuses on natural products and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for
               the treatment of metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. His interests include developing

               GLP-1  receptor  agonists  and  incretin  modulators  from  medicinal  plants,  investigating  the
               comorbidity mechanisms of type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, and exploring medicinal
               food materials for obesity, fatty liver, and diabetes-related complications.
                  He  has  published  extensively  in  international  journals  such  as  Phytomedicine,

               Pharmacological Research, Journal of Natural Products, Food & Function, and British Journal
               of Pharmacology. His contributions include the discovery of boschnaloside from Boschniakia
               rossica as a GLP-1 receptor activator, and characterization of carotenoids from Momordica
               cochinchinensis  (Gac  fruit)  as  GLP-1  secretagogues.  Dr.  Liu  also  holds  patents  related  to

               botanical therapeutics for metabolic and neurological disorders. He is currently an editorial
               board member of the World Journal of Gastroenterology.
