               Abstract
Eleven compounds (1–11) were isolated from the Formosan octocoral Lobophytum durum
collected off Guishan Island, Yilan, Taiwan. A new sterol, 3β-hydroxy-25-methylene-5-
cholesten-7-one (1), was identified along with ten known metabolites: (22R,23R,24R)-5α,8α-
               epidioxy-22,23-methylene-24-methylcholest-6-en-3β-ol (2), 7-oxogorgosterol (3), 24R-
               methylcholestane-3β,5α,6β,25-tetrol 25-monoacetate (4), 20-acetylsinularolide C (5), 20-
               acetylsinularolide B (6), sinularolide B (7), sinularolide C (8), lobolide (9), lobophytolide D
(10), and 1-O-octadecyl glycerin ether (11). Structural assignments were confirmed by
spectroscopic analyses and literature comparison. Compounds 2–4 and 11 represent the first
isolation from this species, and the absolute configuration of compound 4 was determined by
X-ray crystallography. All isolates were tested for anti-inflammatory activity, assessing their
inhibitory effects on ROS and elastase release in human neutrophils.
